Australian Rules Football has been a key part of Whyalla’s culture for many years. The city is proud to have produced some of the game’s legendary players including Barrie Robran, Neil Kerley, Robert Pyman (Adelaide Crows) and Levi Greenwood (North Melbourne and Collingwood). Whyalla juniors are regularly selected to play SANFL including; Rian Smoker, Myles McNamara, Ciaron Hollingsworth-Hughes, Ben Sawford, Kyle Crompton, Brendon and Kyle Jackson in recent years.
The Whyalla Football League consists of six active Australian Rules Football clubs who play under 14, under 17, Reserves and League teams. The city also has a very active Junior League playing under 8, under 10 and under 12 teams. There are 252 matches, including day and evening matches, scheduled for the 2016 season. The Whyalla Football League was established to represent the six football clubs in Whyalla. We manage the Bennett and Memorial ovals during the season including; catering, gate and bar facilities on match days.
A key aim of the League is to ensure the game in Whyalla is Player, Family and Spectator friendly. We firmly believe this is critical to sustain and grow the game into the future. All of us involved with football in Whyalla hope you have an enjoyable 2016 season.
